Technical communication in the UAS Gießen-Friedberg - that is concentrated competence in informatics, media informatics and technical documentation based on site. Gießen-Friedberg has a long tradition of media production studies. Via the technical education the UAS Gießen-Friedberg ensures a headstart in terms of knowledge in the fields of new media, internet-tv, social learning, distribution of information and completes it with technical communication.
The UAS Gießen-Friedberg uses the latest technology. At both locations new premises ensure the realisation of the standards of media education. As you may expect, television, photo and recording studios are a part of the training facilities as well as cross-linked editorial systems or mobile recording units.
Technics are not self-explanatory. For this, there is the occupational field of technical editing. The advanced master studies "Technical Editing And Multi-Media Based Documentation" impart knowledge of the generation of modern information products. The UAS Gießen-Friedberg qualifies specialists combining technics and didactics, media and content, text, sound and vision. Specialists for technical communication - acting as mediators between developers and users, they always strive for the maximisation of simplicity, usability and clarity.
Besides the basic studies of journalistic text production the students plan and create multi-media based information systems, work with an XML editing system (TIM-RS) and process sound and image information to reflect target group needs. The training mainly takes place in the frame of projects related to documentation management and editing systems, editorial processes and multi-media based applications.
Begin of studies starting summer or winter term. The regular period of study is four semesters, part-time study is possible.

University of Karlsruhe Civil Engineering & Economy (D-76133 Karlsruhe, Germany)

In the University of Karlsruhe technical writing has been a degree course since 1997. Besides linguistic basics and the "classic" generation of documentations, core of the bachelor studies "Technical Writing" at the faculty of economics are especially contents related to media design and information technology. For this purpose students are working with the latest software of practical relevance such as editing systems, DTP and XML tools.
The Master studies "Technical Writing" scientifically enhance the knowledge of methods of the global management of technical information. Their knowledge shall enable the future specialists and executive staff of the technical editing office to take charge of important conceptual tasks and positions in the internal and external information management.
